Did You Know...
The Need For Use Of Steel Safety Plates
April 1, 1999

National Electrical Code (NEC) article 300-4 (e) specifies that cable or raceway-type wiring may be installed in wooden stud grooves, to be covered by wallboard or similar covering, if protected by 1/16" thick steel plate. This requirement excludes raceways covered by articles 345, 346, 347, and 348.
The steel plate must have the same width as the stud, and must be securely fastened to the stud.
Always use Bridgeport's Steel Safety Plate.
Note: Above comments are not an interpretation of the National Electrical Code or local regulations. Always consult your local electrical inspector for requirements in your area.
