Bridgeport Fittings, Inc. was founded by Adelbert R. Auray and Neil G. Hayes in 1925 as The Bridgeport Switch Company. Initially, the product line consisted mainly of electrical switches, bells, buzzers, wall switches and receptacles.

The company shifted its manufacturing direction in 1936, when it was decided to put an emphasis on conduit and cable fittings for the electrical industry. Malleable iron, steel, aluminum and brass fittings replaced the original residential electrical components.

In 1954, the company changed its name to Bridgeport Fittings, Inc.
1958

1958
Continued new product development, coupled with a goal of becoming the market leader in quality conduit fittings, led to the introduction of two zinc die-cast products in 1958. Those products included the 3/8" BX and Romex connectors that remain popular today. As manufacturing and marketing growth progressed, the need for an even larger facility became apparent, resulting in a move to Stratford, Connecticut.

In the early 1980's, Bridgeport purchased PCs for a number of sales reps to help bring them up to speed with the current technology.

In 1987, Bridgeport Fittings led the industry in adopting the use of bar codes on our products.
2006
Our History - 2006
2006
In 2006 Bridgeport Fittings purchased certain assets of Regal Manufacturing including the Regal name, patents, drawings, trademarks and tools and dies associated with the manufacture of Regal products. This acquisition further strengthened Bridgeport’s market position within the electrical industry and reconfirmed the company’s commitment to be the best-in-category manufacturer in the industry. Today, the Bridgeport Fittings line includes over 2,000 products.

When you think American, think Bridgeport.  We’re investing in our U.S.-based manufacturing operation in Stratford, Connecticut.  We’re investing in equipment, improving process automation and developing new products. Still today, over two thirds of our product volume is manufactured in the U.S.
